Movie Magazine Analysis-Empire

The masthead of the magazine is a red colour so it can be seen over the light background and also because it is the colour commonly used on the magazine. The issue of the magazine and the price are also included around the masthead to give readers information quickly without having to search around the cover or inside the magazine. The catch-phrase 'The World's Biggest Movie' is also used underneath the masthead to entice the reader into buying the magazine and persuade them that it is the best one within the genre.

The headline of the main feature is in large font across the front of the cover to catch the eye of the audience. It involves the name of the featured movie so that readers can immediately spot it if they are interested in the movie. The headline is also accompanied by a tag-line to draw the attention of the audience to the magazine.

Within the cover, the names of movies and actors are mentioned because the creators assume that the readers will have a knowledge of the subject and will be interested in finding out about it.

To hook the audience and readers into the magazine, the creators use many techniques. They mention other stories that will be inside to entice readers to buy the product and read on, they use bright colours like red and blue that stand out to catch the attention of the audience and most importantly the use of celebrities and movie stars. The fame and 'star persona' that surrounds movie stars will entice the readers to purchase the magazine and the shot that has been used of Daniel Craig as Bond is an action shot and relates to the strapline at the top of the cover.

The layout uses a typical convention of magazines, the more important information and stories are bolder and nearer to the middle of the page so they catch the audience's attention first and the less important stories are smaller and to the side. The size of the cover is a regular A4 size.

The barcode of the magazine is towards the bottom of the cover to show it isn't important, but the other information including the website, price and date are at the top near the masthead to show that they are important.

The size of the font changes due to the importance of the text, but all of the text is in bold and capitals to allow readers to see it easier from a distance.
