This movie poster uses many different techniques to entice the audience to view the film. The identification of the actors and actress to the series will make the target audience want to watch the product. The 'star persona' of the less important characters has also been used to the advantage of the creators. In previous films in the series, 'Ron' and 'Hermione' may have had a much smaller image on the poster than this one, but since the actors have become as famous as that of 'Harry' they are placed in an image nearly as large as the main character to attract viewers.

The most important section of the mise-en-scene of this poster is the wands in the hands of the characters. For viewers of this poster that have no knowledge of the series, the casual clothes worn by the main characters do not imply the magic aspect of the movie, but placing wands in their hands, the creators are showing viewers that this is a film including magic and fantasy. The setting of the poster is another important aspect of the mise-en-scene. Viewers that have seen the previous movies in the series will expect the setting to 'Hogwarts' school, but this poster implies that there is a wider use of setting away from the usual places in this part of the saga. The costume of the adult character in this poster is another important indicator of the subject of the movie. The teacher or lecturer like robes of the old man, 'Dumbledore' portray the school aspect of the film and how there is an influence of adult authority.

The facial expressions and body language of the characters within this movie poster are vital in indicating the events of the film. The determined expressions from the younger characters tell us that there will be a problem in the movie that they are determined to provide a solution for and put right. Contrasting this, the anxious look on the face of the old man implies that he is worried by the effects of the problem and maybe doesn't believe the youngsters can solve it. The body language and positioning of the main character, 'Harry' are also important in portraying his attitudes. He is standing in an action position and suggesting that he is ready to fight and solve the problem, this relates to the common thought of youngsters that they can achieve anything and nothing can harm them. The body language of the other young characters also portrays their influence on the film. They are standing in a ready position almost as back up to the main character to act as his support, which is what has occurred throughout the series.

The tag line of this poster implies that there is something that will happen in this movie that has not previously occurred in the series. The films have always directed towards a major twist in the overall story line of the whole series and by including the tag line 'Dark secrets revealed', the creators are telling viewers that this may finally happen in this film.

The font types and colours used in this poster are designed to portray both the magical and dark aspects of the movie. The use of the 'Harry Potter' series font is used to attract viewers that have a previous knowledge of the films and will see the text and be immediately interested in the product. The colour of the series font is designed to show the darkness of the movie and how it may differ from previous films in the series that may have used a brighter font in the text.
