Project Pitch

Genre

The genre of my movie trailer is teen comedy. I chose teen comedy as my genre because it is my favourite movie type and I feel that I can place personal experiences and ideologies into the trailer that I would not be able to do with other genres because of the age link with the between the characters and myself.

Target Audience

Due to my movie being directed at a particular group, teenagers, the events and ideologies of the have to also be specific to the target audience to create enjoyment and interest in the product. I will research similar products to mine to get ideas of common ideologies of teen comedies and add that to my personal beliefs that I wish to include and show in the movie. The certificate of the movie would be 15 thus making the specific target audience teenagers 15 and above.

Inspiration and Influence

I have drawn inspiration for my product from both teen aimed films and teen aimed television programmes. The main influences in my movie come from American teen comedies including 'Superbad', the 'American Pie' series, 'Eurotrip' and 'The Girl Next Door' which are all favourite movies of mine that include and are aimed at people of my target audience and contain the type of events and ideologies that I would like to place into my product. As well as american teen comedy movies, I aim to take influence from British teen comedy television shows that also include the events and ideologies of my target audience including 'The Inbetweeners' and merge the two together to create a new product different to these existing ones.

Codes and Conventions
Like the majority of teen comedy movies, my product is based around the lives and friendships of a group of late high school kids. The basic codes and conventions of teen movies and television shows that I will follow will be the inclusion of parties, drinking, relationships, high school and other teen related doings. Another typical convention of teen comedy movies and TV programmes, espescially American ones, that I will follow is the inclusion of music under the 'punk' and 'pop punk' genres as the film's soundtrack. Although I have to find music elsewhere to place on the trailer, I will draw inspiration from artists commonly used in teen comedy films such as 'Blink-182' and 'Sum 41'.

Characters
There are three main characters in the film that feature in the trailer:
Lucas-17
Josh-17
Foz (short for Fozle)-18
I will follow the common conventions of character types in teen movies and television shows in my film. The common character types in males in teen movies that I will use are as following:

The 'lady's man'- Foz is the lady's man in the group, he gets the most female attention and has a girlfriend back in Watford, although he doesn't care much for her she is still obsessed with him. His self-obsession doesn't allow him to show feelings towards others and portray his own emotions.

The 'geeky' one- Josh is the geeky member of the group, he has difficulty getting girls and is seen as being sweeter than shagable. His caring instinct keeps the group together during conflict, even though he takes some stick from the others.

The reckless/joker one- Lucas is the reckless one, he has little regard for rules and danger and never quits on anything he does. Although he is a parent's nightmare, he is a huge hit with everyone he knows of his own age due to his jokey and I don't care attitude.

Film Plot

Three friends from Watford decide to go on a day and night out to London to experience inner-city life and get as drunk as possible. During the day, the guys visit famous London landmarks to raise as much hell as possible and then find themselves some great clubs and drinking spots in the night. Lucas finds himself a girl that is really into his reckless attitude whilst they are in London and Josh, who has never been a hit with the ladys, finds a girl very similar to him, slightly odd and very sweet.

*Music acknowledgement-The music that I have used in my trailer is the song 'Won't Uncle Say' by the unsigned American band 'Pierced.' I legally downloaded this song from
www.garageband.com.

  1. You have clearly given this some thought, Will and I like where you are going with your ideas. Do you think your film will be another American teen movie or might you try to make a British teen movie and how do you think it will translate? Do British teens and American teens have similar experiences?
