Why We Chose Our Brief
We chose the print brief instead of video because of both interests and aspirations. In terms of aspirations we would both like to work in the music media as a profession and by choosing this brief of the coursework we could gain valuable experience in this line of work.
In terms of interests, both of us have a deep love of music and to do this course work could deepen our understanding of magazines and music genres that we both have an interest in and also those genres that we previously would not have known much about.

I enjoy reading music magazines and take a lot of inspiration from my favourite magazines, including NME. Although I think that magazines such as NME and Kerrang are enjoyable and interesting, I believe that they lack things that we can add to our product and create our unique selling point.
In both products, it seems as if the editors only pin-point certain areas of “rock” instead of including all aspects of the genre. I believe that we can break this barrier and include all aspects across the “rock” genre in our product and appeal to a wider audience.

From a musician’s perspective, most of these music magazines don’t give enough to the people who like to play music and the people who will want to start bands (and other musical groups) themselves. This is why I believe that we should not just focus on famous bands and musicians but also on unsigned acts as well. We should promote small gigs that we believe should be gone to and help the unsigned acts that are good enough to be seen.
