Product Analysis - Will Portch

Front Cover
The main colour of my front cover is blue. I chose the colour blue as my main colour because it the shade is a bright blue which catches the eye of viewers and also the bright and happy nature of the colour matches the bright and happy nature of the magazine.
I chose to include the hook intended splashes across the page to catch the eye of viewers to the magazine, to give a brief insight into what is included in the magazine and to persuade viewers to buy the product and read on.
I chose to place the price, issue amd webaddress information under the magazine name because i think it is a lot easier to view in that position than say the bottom right corner upon the barcode.
I chose to include the banners across the top and bottom of the page to hook viewers and readers into the magazine. I included posters in my product to persuade viewers to buy the magazine because they will recieve free posters. I included the banner across the bottom to inform readers of what bands are included in the magazine to persuade them to buy it if they have an interest in the included band.
I chose to included the image involved to promote the theme and purpose of the magazine and the issue. Like the image, the magazine is a bright, happy and not too serious product and the inclusion of a image similar to the theme will increase the effectiveness.

Contents
I included a band index and page reference box to allow readers to quickly and easily access the pages of the magazine they wish to read. I also included sections explaining the main sections of the magazine so readers can quickly skip to the sections they want to read and I also included the artists involved in those sections so readers can decide if they wish to read them without having the go to the page.
I included the main colour of the magazine of blue to continue the bright ans happy impact, I also included othres colours on the contents including yellow and red to contrast the main contiuous colour of blue.
I included images of artists involved in the featured stories and reviews to give readers and insight of what is to come and persuade them to continue reading.
I included a competition on the contents page to persuade readers to enter and gain the magazine and institution extra money. I chose Michael Jackson as the artist because he is a massive celebrity that many people like, so he is likely to attract a lot of interest.

Double-Page Spread

I included the main colour of the magazine in the double-page spread to continue the bright, happy and light-hearted nature of the magazine and the artist. I also chose white text on the heading and a blue background to contrast the opposing colours on the main text.

I chose to position the text of the page in vertical columns to allow easy reading for readers and also to follow a common convention of the music magazine genre. I decided to make the featured article an interview because I believe that gives a better description of the artist involved and also because the target audience can relate to the story because they are a similar age to the people in the band. I also chose to include a short introduction before the main text to 'set the scene' of the article and allow readers to understand the interview.

I decided to place the article headline across the top of the page because I feel that it takes up less room on the page in that position and to attract the eye of the reader, it needs to be a large size and in any other position in will take up too much room. I also decided to place the headline there because I feel that it would stop the flow of the main text and possibly confuse readers in the middle of the page.

I chose to structure the double-page spread with text covering one page and an image covering the other as a contrast from the general conventions of music magazines. The design was included in the Mojo magazine that we analysed and I believe that it created an effective differentiation from normal products.

The main design of the Front Cover and Contents page of our product were both designed by me. Although my partner did edit his designs by changing some colours, shapes and information, the primary ideas were designed by myself.
